Giant Mountain Rock Slide Caught on Video

A Mountain rock slide caught on video on Tuesday has closed an East Tennessee highway with giant boulders, many of which are larger than cars, blocking the road. Officials had already been on the scene because of one rock slide discovered by a motorist at 5:30 AM when a second slide was caught on video.

Besides the giant boulders, many full size pine trees slid down the mountain covering US Highway 64 which runs through the Ocoee Gorge in Eastern Tennessee.

“It’s pretty common to get rocks coming down, but it’s the size and magnitude of this one,” said Don Longworth, operations chief for West Polk Fire and Rescue. It requires very large bulldozer type equipment to clear the road of such huge boulders and trees.

Crews had cleared a single lane through the rocks from the first slide, but around 1 PM the mountain rumbled and the second slide tumbled down the mountain recovering the roadway.

Julie Oaks, Tennessee Department of Transportation spokeswoman, said geologists have not yet been able to assess conditions in the slide area. “The problem is it is still raining and there is concern about the stability of the slope,” she said. “We will have to wait until the rain subsides before we can get in there to make an assessment.”

Redneck Playground or Your Kid is Elephant Poopy

Safety is of paramount importance when designing anything children will use. There can be no parts that will pinch tiny fingers; in no way can any of the equipment or parts of the equipment tip over; and harmful substances such as lead paint or or any parts small enough to swallow simply are not allowed.

But our redneck playground designer must have skipped school the day his professor discussed appropriateness of theme, because something is wrong when your kids return home from the playground crying and telling you the other kids teased them and called them elephant poopy.

“Peter, Peter is elephant poopy. Emily smells like elephant poop. Nah-nah nah nah-nah!”

I don’t know about you but hearing that my kids are being compared to elephant poop worries me that it may create an identity crisis in the four-year-old mind. That sort of nick name may tend to linger longer than one might like not unlike the odor of pachyderm poop.

“…I don’t smell like elephant poopy, do I Daddy?”

One must reassure four-year-olds about enough other things in life without having to add elephant poopy to the list.

“Peter, the sky is blue because God painted it that color when he had left over paint from painting his living room. And no you do not smell like elephant poopy. Your mom makes you take lots of baths so you will only smell like a clean little boy.”

Perhaps an elephant slide such as this one is not an issue in the Redneck mind because four-year-old Redneck little boys sometimes do smell like elephant poopy.

Bull in an Irish Supervalu

A young bull somehow managed to escape from nearby stockyards in Ballinrobe, County Mayo, Ireland, recently. He must have missed his family and tried looking for them in the meat department of the local Supervalu store.

The lost bovine may very well have been staring his long lost uncle right in the rump roast, but apparently did not recognize his relation in his current state. Have a look at the action for yourself:

That reporter certainly has a flair for using puns, but she probably would have a different attitude if she were the one looking for lost relations in the local deli.
