OJ Simpson Back in Slammer

OJ Simpson was forced to return to jail today for violation of the terms of his bail by attempting to contact one of his co-defendants in his armed robbery/kidnapping case.

On Friday, OJ was being escorted from the Miami area back to Las Vegas to be jailed until he faced a hearing on Wednesday.

Las Vegas court prosecutors have stated that Simpson allegedly left a message on November 16th asking his bail bondsman, Miguel Pereira, to get in contact with Simpson’s co-defendant, Clarence “C.J.” Stewart, to convince him not to cut a deal with the prosecution and testify against Simpson.

Clark County District Attorney David Roger stated in court documents that “after being admitted to bail with the conditions set above…(Simpson) attempted to dissuade a co-defendant from testifying and cooperating with law enforcement.”

In the message Simpson was quoted as saying, “I’m fed up with this. Fed up with changing what they told me. All right?”

Simpson allegedly made the call only two days after he was ordered to stand trial by a Vegas justice of the peace for 12 counts including armed robbery and kidnapping. Simpson may be liable to spend the rest of his life behind bars if he is convicted.

OJ has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to stand trial beginning April 7th. He was freed on $125,000 bail until then with the proviso that he have absolutely no contact with the other defendants in the case–not even by “carrier pigeon.”

Simpson’s bail bondsman You Ring We Spring rearrested Simpson after the Las Vegas prosecutor filed a complaint that Simpson has violated the terms of his bail.

On Wednesday, District Court Judge Jackie Glass will be faced with the decision as to whether or not Simpson violated the terms of his $125,000 bail. If the judge decides that Simpson did violate bail, OJ could be forced to remain in jail until his trial.

Memorbilia Dealer Implicates OJ Simpson In Vegas Hearing

OJ Simpson appeared in a Las Vegas court room today for a preliminary hearing to determine whether Simpson should stand trial for a September 13th alleged armed robbery in a hotel room at the Palace Station Hotel-Casino.

Sports memorabilia dealer, Bruce Fromong, testified that Simpson and his associates burst into the room “in a military invasion fashion,” and that although Simpson was not armed, two of his associates were. Fromong also testified that OJ was screaming, “This is all my s—. This all belongs to me. You stole this from me. Let’s pack up. Let’s get out of here.”

Fromong said that one of the armed men pointed a gun to Fromong’s head saying, “I’ll shoot your a–.”

Deputy District Attorney David Roger said he expects to call seven more witnesses in the hearing which is expected to last only two days.

Fromong, who had a heart attack only days after the incident, testified that he called a TV show from his hospital bed to explain his version of the incident. He admitted that he has tried to sell items, that were identical to what was stolen, on Ebay, and that he has discussed the possibility of writing a book about the affair.

Fromong testified that Simpson also took memorabilia related to Joe Montana, Duke Snider and Pete Rose. That testimony is important because Simpson’s defense is that he was merely trying re-acquire items that were stolen from him years ago. If the prosecution is able to prove that Simpson stole items that were never his, that would potentially shoot holes in Simpson’s contention that he only took his own belongings.

Tom Scotto, a friend of Simpson’s from North Miami Beach, FL, said that Simpson believes that the charges in the case were filed because of the not guilty verdict in Simpson’s murder trial for his wife’s slaying in 1994.

Outside the courtroom were a man dressed in a chicken costume and a woman dressed in a rabbit suit with the words “Stop Police Brutality” painted on it. Overhead a helicopter circled.

The circus for the second OJ trial has begun.

Defendant: Guns Were OJ’s Idea

Charles “Chuck” Cashmore told NBC’s Matt Lauer on the Today Show that OJ Simpson is the one who asked his co-defendants to bring guns with them when Simpson and a few associates allegedly robbed two sports memorabilia dealers at the Palace Station Hotel-Casino in Las Vegas in early September.

Cashmore was one of the “associates” who accompanied Simpson on the botched mission to rescue some of OJ’s memorabilia that he claims were rightfully his. The accompanying photo shows a football that was one of the items that OJ allegedly stole from the hotel room.

OJ claims that the memorabilia was stolen from him years ago, and he was merely retrieving his own property. The Las Vegas police have a different view of the “retrieval” and have charged Simpson with two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery and burglary with a deadly weapon and kidnapping.

Cashmore claims to have only met Simpson that very day saying, “I did not know Mr. Simpson before that evening. A mutual friend of ours asked me if I wanted to meet the gentleman. I just had a cocktail with him and it went from there.”

NBC reports that Cashmore has pled guilty to being an accessory to a robbery and is cooperating with the prosecuting attorneys. If Cashmore testifies that the guns were OJ’s idea, that could prove to be one important nail in Simpson’s coffin. Simpson initially claimed that there were no guns involved in the alleged robbery.

OJ Simpson Denied Bail While Partners Released

OJ Simpson was charged today with 10 felony counts and one gross misdemeanor count in connection with his recent escapade in the sports memorabilia un-robbery that took place in the Palace Station Hotel-Casino. Simpson was also denied bail, while two of his alleged accomplices have already made bail.

This has raised questions about reverse favoritism because one of Simpson’s compatriots, Walter Alexander, allegedly brandished a gun during the event, yet was able to cut a deal and is now free and back home in LA.

“This is way over the top,” attorney Chris Rasmussen told ABCNEWS.com as he explained that he has represented hundreds of defendants charged with more serious crimes yet who still make bail. “If this was a regular case, this would be a gross misdemeanor with probation, maybe five years’ supervision. We have guys who shoot up 7-11s and they get out the next day.”

Amy Chelini, a former Clark County prosecutor, was also surprised by the denial of bail. “I can’t recall the last time that someone was denied bail,” she explained. “Even the most serious charges, except for capital murder, get bail. I have a lot of clients who are from out of state and get bail. After all, a lot of people who come to this town get in trouble,” she said.

Reporters have been questioning Clark County authorities and OJ, himself, about the possible discrimination against OJ because he was once on trial for capital murder.

OJ Simpson and the Un-Robbery

OJ Simpson’s antics last week are proof that a leopard does not change its spots. In case you have not heard, Simpson, who was acquitted in 1995 of murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, has been arrested and charged with two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and conspiracy to commit robbery and burglary with a deadly weapon.

Those charges are all felonies, and the robbery charges alone could get the ex-football star 30 years in the slammer.

The charges stem from an incident in which Simpson and a few associates armed with guns allegedly robbed two sports memorabilia dealers at the Palace Station Hotel-Casino in Las Vegas last week. Simpson, who is already foolishly talking to the media, claims that he was merely reclaiming stolen personal items.

TMZ.com has an audio recording tape of the actual robbery. The tape was recorded by Thomas Riccio, part owner of the auction house Universal Rarities. It seems that Riccio tagged along with Simpson during the robbery to prove that the items Simpson recovered were really his..

On the tape you hear someone say “You, against the motherf*****g wall.”

Simpson claims that the items he took were stolen from him and that he was merely trying to recover his own property.

Now, that is completely understandable. I always bring along a gun or two when I try to reclaim my stolen property, don’t you?

Let’s get the facts straight here. You barge into a hotel room unannounced, with guns. You tell the occupants to get “against the motherf*****g wall,” and you take a few items–some of which may be yours and some of which are not yours.

Nope. That doesn’t sound like a robbery to me. It must be an un-robbery.

Simpson, who is now 60 year old, is being held without bail. Most folks mellow out by the time they are 60, but maybe some kids never grow up.

Aren’t celebrities fun? They are so busy doing so many dumb things that you just cannot keep up with them. I can hardly wait to read about the next dumb thing one of them does.

If these celebrities continue to behave in such a foolish manner, we are going to have to start licensing them just to keep them in line. You want to be a celebrity? Get a license first.

I can think of a few who would probably flunk the exam.
